Select a current topic/issue taking place in the United States, such as female reproductive rights, Black Lives Matter, gun reform, human trafficking, sex trafficking, immigration reform, the opioid crisis, drug sentencing laws, #MeToo movement, underemployment and unemployment, living wages, remote workforce, the economy, or any other “hot button” topic.
Knowing that external issues always find their way inside organizations, where employees begin sharing their opinions and ideas about those issues.

- Looking at your chosen company, search online and see how they have addressed your chosen issue internally (with employees) and externally (with customers, vendors, and the media).
- Has your company taken a hard position on this issue? Or have they been passive and seemingly only using the topic as a public relations stunt? a. Cite company leaders’ public statements in interviews and/or on social media.
- What is the current public opinion about your company’s efforts? Are people praising your company or attacking it?
- What should be the “deal breakers” that could lead to employee termination and ending contracts with customers and suppliers? a. Why? What evidence do you have that supports your opinion?
- Outline your recommendations for how the company can take an actionable and ethical position, internally and externally. a. Cite the sources where you found this information.
- What needs to be addressed, corrected, and implemented with employees? What message does your company need to articulate to its customers, vendors, and suppliers? a. Cite the sources where you found this information.
- Compare your company’s actions with its closest competitor. a. What is your competition doing and saying that is similar or different from your company?
- What is the current public opinion about your competition’s efforts? Are they being praised or vilified?
- A conclusion
