Exploring Historical Context Through Media Analysis
Historical Media Analysis Paper:
Students will be asked to review a Film, Mini-series, Play, Novel, etc. for its historical context, accuracy, and significance. The student is allowed to review the piece of media of their choice with the prior approval of the professor. Students should mind the length of their selected work as well as the duration of this
course. Analytical Reviews should be no shorter than 4 pages and should discuss the historical setting as it relates to the course, the historical context of when it was released, the author/writer/director/creator’s potential biases, the theming of the work as it relates to history, and any other pertinent details for a historical analysis. Students should also reference outside material when comparing the work to history, and use MLA, APA, or Chicago/Turabian’s style guides when formatting the paper and any citations. Students will have to decide their Analysis topic no later than the end of the second full week, and the assignment must be submitted by the posted date. Additional note – Please be sure to properly cite the sources for images and video clips in your paper. Improper or absent citations are the most common forms of plagiarism
