SOCI 376 Effect of The Internet on Family Social Interaction Paper
Description
Part 2: ‘Measures’ (36 marks)
The goal of this section is to let the reader know how the variables in your study are measured –or more specifically coded.
Title this ‘Measures’
First, you will start with the dependent variable. You can choose to set this up as a subheading under ‘Measures’ if you’d like. (6 marks total – breakdown below)
– Begin with including the question(s) that was asked to measure this variable (if you create a scale, you’ll want to include all the questions that were combined in this measure). You’ll need to refer to the GSS Guide for this information. This is where you want to provide the exact question as it is worded in the survey. You do not need to cite this (it seems counterintuitive, I know). (1 mark)
– – Next, describe how the variable was originally coded. If you did not recode this variable, state that you retained the original coding. – If you do recode your variable, indicate how you recoded this variable. Did you combine categories? Did you reverse-code the variable? Ensure you include what the level of measurement is for your recoded variable. (Descriptions of coding is worth 4 marks total)
– Include the level of measurement of this variable. If you do not recode your variable, indicate the original level of measurement e.g. self-rated general health is a continuous (or interval-level) measure. If you have recoded your variable indicate what the level of measurement is for the recoded variable. (1 mark)
Do the same for each of your independent variables. If you have a key independent variable, this should come directly after you describe your dependent variable. You can use a subheading for your independent variables too, if you’d like. (30 marks total – same breakdown as for DV marks above)
Overall clarity, correctness, organization of writing, and references (5 marks)
Considers the organization, flow, and clarity of the writing as well as spelling and grammatical analyzes the data, and follows the steps to describe.
