Sociology Indigenous Research & Methodologies Paper
Description
This topic has been mentioned throughout the semester but has not
necessarily been explicit. In this 1200-1500 word paper you are to
demonstrate your understanding of the following learning outcome for this
course:
Demonstrate understanding of the decision during the research process on
minoritized groups.
Potential topics:
- Sampling decisions and who gets included or not
- Who has been left out of research historically? (particularly medical
research)
- What is indigenous research? How could the use of indigenous
methodologies change our work towards social justice and activism?
- What is meant by the saying that our current methods are colonized?
OR the second part of this learning outcome:
Understand the ethical aspects of conducting human subjects experiments
and how these experiments have differentially impacted minoritized groups.
Potential topics:
- Examples of these experiments other than Tuskegee
o Children
o Prisoners
o Other groups with power differentials from the experimenters
While this is to include your analysis, it must be backed up with research.
